BlackBerry Development Fundamentals

What people have said about the book:

It was readable and informative. I don’t use the product or write apps, so it’s more than I can fully understand. That said, it reads well and from what you indicated it fills a niche that needs filled.

Chapter 8: The BlackBerry Browser PDF Print E-mail

You have been assigned the task of building a new web-based product for BlackBerry devices. What do you do?

Depending on how much experience you have with BlackBerry or mobile development platform, you probably have at least two different thoughts about the project. You can think that since the BlackBerry is a unique animal in the mobile space there’s probably some weird things you have to do to make your site work on the BlackBerry. You could also think that since the BlackBerry is a standards-based platform and since the site should be using standard web technologies that you could probably just do all of your work using the technologies you’re already familiar with. If you’ve read all the way through the book to here, you should already know that the second option is the one that applies to you and your mobilization efforts.

The BlackBerry browser is a standards-based browser. Most of the technologies in use on the web today are supported in the browser. There are some limitations in the BlackBerry browser and there some special considerations you will need to keep in mind when building your site but in general, the BlackBerry browser works just like most other mobile browsers. This chapter discusses the capabilities of the BlackBerry browser and some special things it can do that no other browser can.
